FAQS
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology has been practiced for over 5000 years and is based on the theory that different 'reflexes' on the feet, hands or face correspond to different areas of the body. Pressure is applied to specific reflexes to help restore balance to the body naturally.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
Reflexology can help to relieve stress, anxiety and tension, encourage relaxation, improve mood and sleep quality therefore giving an overall feel of well being.
Will it hurt or tickle?
Reflexology is usually extremely relaxing but there may be mild discomfort if there are areas of tension or congestion but this will pass quickly. The treatment is not ticklish and the pressure can be varied to your preference.
Can a Reflexologist diagnose?
No. Reflexologists are not medically trained so do not diagnose, prescribe or claim to cure illnesses.
I have veruccas, bunions etc can I have Reflexology?
Yes. Veruccas, corns etc give valuable feedback about the reflexes on which they develop. Areas can be worked around or covered if necessary.
What should I expect during a treatment?
A full medical and lifestyle history will be taken to establish your overall health and lifestyle so that your treatment can be tailored to your needs. You will then be asked to remove your shoes and socks and be made comfortable on the massage couch or recliner chair. The session will begin with a relaxing massage followed by pressure applied to reflex points over your feet and then end with a relaxing massage. I will then give you any feedback and aftercare advice.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will depend on how your body responds and what you are hoping to achieve but generally if you are focusing on a specific health issue then around 4-6 sessions at regular intervals is recommended, then a maintenance plan can be discussed. If you are wanting general relaxation then feel free to come as often as you like but usually between 2-4 weeks is recommended to get the most benefit.
How will I feel after treatment?
Usually you will have increased energy, enhanced sleep, relief from pain, a feeling of well being and relief from stress and tension however due to the body eliminating toxins you may also feel nauseous, your existing symptoms may worsen before they improve, flu like symptoms and increased urination, these are all signs your treatment is working.
